Bobby
At sixteen, straight from school, Bobby joined the army as a bügle boy.
From from 1934to 1939 he served in India. He returned to England and then saw war Service.
He was married on 1st June 1940 to Emily Lilian Blencowe (4.6.1912 -- 21.3.1995)
at the Garrison Church, where he was stationed.
There was no honeymoon, he had to leave to rejoin his regiment immediately after the reception.
They had one daughter Maureen Ann (b. 2.4.1942)
He saw service in Egypt, Sicily and France and was killed in action on 20.6.1944 in Normandy. He is buried there in the Ranville Cemetery, along with men from the 6th Airborne Division who had landed silently by glider in a surprise attack at the Pegasus Bridge.

When the three brother (Willy, Joe Bobby) and their mother Sarah, who had a breakdown and became incapable of looking after the family - she lost her memory, were taken by Aunt Martha to the farm at Drumacarney there was no bedroom for a girl, so Sarah (*1917) stayed in Coatbridge where she was adopted by Annie (nee Ritchie) the widow of William's brother John.
Until she was 14yrs Sarah believed that Annie was her mother and called her 'Mam', and believed that Bobbie and Sammy were her brothers. When she learned the true circumstances she visited her mother and brothers in Ireland, and remained in contact thereafter.
She married George Woods and lived in Provanhall, Easterhouse, Glasgow. They had 2 daughters
Jean (now Mackie), b. 8.12.40, and Ann (now Davidson) born 17.2.50.
After they married the family went over to Ireland every year at Glasgow Fairs week.
When George died Sarah joined her two daughters in Perth, Australia. She died 27.3.2003. All emigrated to Australia
